Beach Award Flags Lowered BalmedieThe Scottish National Beach Award Jury met yesterday, February 16th, to discuss all beach award applicants for the 2010 summer season.

As the recent snow turned Scotland into a winter wonderland you’d be forgiven for pushing sun drenched beaches to the back of your mind. But for Keep Scotland Beautiful the weather hasn’t stopped us thinking about the Scottish award winning beaches.

The National Beach Award Jury members meet early every year to discuss the submissions for the coming summer’s Seaside Award and Blue Flag winners.

The Jury examine information from assessments carried out during the previous summer and also applications which provide details of planned activities for the coming season. The Jury has the responsibility of ensuring that candidates comply with the award criteria which fall under four headings: environmental education and information provision; environmental management; safety and services; and water quality.

The award winning beaches will be announced in early June, so please come back to Award beaches to find out which beaches have made the grade.
